Castlink Terms of Service

Last updated:

Plain English summary:

Castlink provides private live-streaming infrastructure. Hosts are responsible for what they stream, who they share links with, and making sure they have the rights and consent needed for their event.

1. Service

Castlink provides short-lived live-streaming tools, including event creation, private broadcast links, viewer watch links, browser broadcasting, OBS/WHIP access where available, event extensions, and basic usage summaries.

Castlink may also provide short free test streams so hosts can check camera, microphone, OBS, and viewer playback before purchase. Test streams are limited, may expire quickly, may be rate-limited by email address or technical signals, and may be changed or withdrawn at any time.

Castlink is a technical service provider. We do not create, curate, monitor, approve, or publish host content.

2. Accounts and Access Links

The service is generally accessed by private links rather than viewer accounts. Anyone with a valid watch link may be able to view the event. Anyone with a valid broadcast link may be able to access broadcaster controls or OBS tokens.

You are responsible for keeping broadcast links private and sharing watch links only with intended viewers.

3. Pricing and Paid Time

Events are sold as fixed packages with included stream time and usage allowances shown before checkout. Paid time normally starts when the event window opens, such as when the host starts the stream path or goes live.

Paid events must be started within the unused-start window shown in the product or service configuration, currently 7 days from purchase. If a paid event is not started within that window, Castlink may expire the unused event and release associated resources.

Castlink may show usage information, including broadcast time, viewer-hours, active viewers, or peak viewers. During launch, Castlink does not automatically charge surprise overage fees. If more time is needed, the host can purchase an optional extension before the event expires.

Free test streams do not include paid event rights, paid support expectations, or extension purchases. They are for setup checks only and may have lower viewer limits or shorter unused-link expiry than paid events.

4. Extensions

Extensions add time to the same event and keep the same broadcast and watch links. Extension purchases are processed separately through Stripe. Extensions should be purchased before the stream expires.

Viewer capacity upgrades may be offered for live paid events. Capacity upgrades increase the concurrent viewer limit for the same event and keep the same watch link. Castlink does not automatically charge viewer overage fees during launch.

5. Refunds

Refunds are handled case by case. We may decline refunds where an event has been used successfully, where problems were caused by the host's device, network, browser, incorrect setup, content, or shared links, or where the event was disabled for breach of these Terms.

Nothing in these Terms limits any non-excludable rights you may have under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act where it applies. New Zealand Consumer Protection explains that services supplied by businesses may be covered by guarantees and remedies where services are faulty or do not meet required standards.

6. Host Responsibilities

7. Prohibited Use

You must not use Castlink to stream or facilitate:

8. Moderation, Suspension, and Termination

We may suspend, disable, finish, remove, or refuse service for any event if we reasonably believe it breaches these Terms, creates legal or safety risk, threatens service stability, or may harm Castlink, viewers, third parties, or infrastructure providers.

If we disable service for breach, you may not be entitled to a refund.

9. Service Availability and Limitations

Live streaming depends on third-party services, cloud infrastructure, internet networks, browsers, devices, cameras, microphones, and payment providers. We do not guarantee uninterrupted streaming, zero latency, compatibility with every device, or that every viewer will connect successfully.

The service is provided on an "as available" basis. We may perform maintenance, change features, change pricing, or discontinue test/MVP features.

10. OBS and Third-Party Tools

OBS/WHIP access may be provided for compatible events. You are responsible for your OBS version, encoder configuration, network, and correct use of temporary tokens. Tokens should be treated as private credentials.

11. Usage Data and Logs

We may collect technical usage data, including viewer sessions, heartbeats, active viewer counts, peak viewers, event timing, IP addresses, user agents, and error logs. This helps operate the service, enforce limits, troubleshoot issues, prevent abuse, and prepare usage summaries.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Castlink and the platform operator are not liable for indirect, consequential, special, reputational, or lost-profit damages. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the specific event giving rise to the claim, unless applicable law requires otherwise.

13. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify the platform operator against claims, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from your content, your event, your breach of these Terms, your misuse of links or credentials, or your failure to obtain rights or consents.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by New Zealand law.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use Castlink.
